In 2016, the Law Reform Commission proposed enacting an offence of sexual grooming against those who might groom children under 16 by communicating with them through electronic means, with the intention of sexually abusing them. To date, a public consultation on the proposal has been launched, but follow-up actions have yet been taken to enhance the protection of adolescents in the justice system.
